You do not have to know the right words to show up for someone. Sometimes, walking beside them is a place to start.

The Shasta County Out of the Darkness Walk returns to Redding on Saturday, November 7th, 2026, bringing people together for community, connection and suicide prevention awareness.

The gathering begins at Carter House Lawn in Caldwell Park. Registration and a resource fair open at 2 p.m., followed by the ceremony and walk at 3 p.m. Participants will walk to the Sundial Bridge and return along the River Trail.

Organizers describe the event as a chance to find a supportive community of people who understand, remember that you are not alone and make a difference together. Whether you have lost someone to suicide, care about someone who is struggling or simply want to support your neighbors, you are welcome to take part.

There is no admission charge. Donations are welcome but are not required to participate. You can register online ahead of time or sign up at the event.

Donations support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, a nonprofit whose work includes suicide prevention research, education, advocacy and public policy.

Volunteers and organizations interested in hosting a resource booth can contact Christopher Diamond at 530-262-8161. Text messages are welcome. Questions can also be emailed to [email protected].
