Shasta High School Celebrates No. 1 District Ranking in U.S. News Best High Schools Report

Shasta High School has a reason to celebrate, and it is putting the spotlight on the students and staff behind the achievement.

In a post shared on its Facebook page, the Redding school announced that it ranked No. 1 in the Shasta Union High School District in U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best High Schools report.

The school credited its academic programs, dedicated teachers and staff, and students who work hard and support one another. Its announcement also recognized the role of sports, clubs and student leadership in building an involved school community.

What the rankings measure

The Best High Schools report looks at academic outcomes, including college readiness, graduation rates, state assessments and participation and performance in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams. It also considers how effectively schools serve students from underserved backgrounds.

Shasta’s announcement describes a district ranking. It does not mean the school was ranked first in all of Shasta County, California or the nation.

Opportunities in and beyond the classroom

Shasta High School’s published course information lists AP options across a range of subjects, including human geography, computer science, biology, environmental science, calculus, statistics, Spanish and studio art. The school notes that passing AP exams can give students an opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school.

Located at 2500 Eureka Way in Redding, Shasta High School serves students in grades nine through twelve. Its history dates to 1899, when it became the first high school in Shasta County.

The school’s celebration recognizes the daily work behind an academic milestone, from teachers preparing lessons and supporting students to students taking on challenging courses and staying involved in campus life.

Congratulations to Shasta High School’s students, teachers, staff and families on the recognition. I’m glad to help celebrate the hard work happening in our local schools. Go Wolves!
