Residents Escape as Fire Destroys Home Outside Yreka

Everyone inside a home outside Yreka escaped without injury, but the residence was destroyed when a fire reached multiple structures near Canal Gulch in Siskiyou County.

CAL FIRE Siskiyou Unit identified a barbecue grill on the porch as the starting point. The flames extended beyond the house, involving an outbuilding and a recreational vehicle.

Responding firefighters from CAL FIRE and local departments found the residence already engulfed. The American Red Cross was contacted to help the displaced residents.

After battling the flames, crews searched for lingering heat and worked through burned materials to prevent the fire from rekindling. They also tried to recover and safeguard belongings and valuables.

The incident prompted a grill safety reminder from CAL FIRE: allow at least 10 feet between a barbecue and a house, deck, overhead covering or anything else that can burn. Stay with the grill while it is in use, and give it time to cool completely before putting it away.
