One person died in a fire involving an RV and five vehicles near Greenbriar Court in Shelter Cove on Thursday, October 29th, 2026.

The Shelter Cove Fire Department responded around 6 a.m. after receiving an initial report of a structure fire. Crews found a larger incident than the shed fire first described, with nearby buildings and surrounding vegetation also threatened.

Intense flames and several small explosions forced firefighters to work defensively before conditions allowed them to move closer and extinguish remaining hot spots.

The department reported containment approximately 45 minutes after the first crews arrived. CAL FIRE and the Whale Gulch Volunteer Fire Department assisted, alongside additional Shelter Cove engines and an ambulance.

During a secondary search, firefighters discovered remains inside the RV. The Humboldt County coroner subsequently confirmed they were human.

The person’s identity had not been released in the October 29th update. The cause of the fire remained under investigation, with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office leading the investigation.
