North State Crews Practice Flood Response Skills in Red Bluff
California Conservation Corps members from Redding, Chico and Siskiyou trained in Red Bluff on October 29th, practicing sandbag work and other flood response techniques.
California Conservation Corps crews gathered in Red Bluff on Thursday, October 29th, 2026, to practice skills used when flooding threatens communities.
Members from the Redding, Chico and Siskiyou centers took part in morning exercises at the Red Bluff Recreation Area in Tehama County.
The training included filling and passing sandbags and building temporary flood fighting structures. Crews also practiced techniques known as wave wash protection and sack rings.
The annual exercises give corps members hands on experience before they are called to help during a flood emergency. The work requires coordination as crews move materials and build protective structures.
For the North State, the training brings together personnel from several communities to prepare for a shared regional concern. Rivers and other waterways connect communities across county lines, and emergency response can require crews to work beyond their home center.
The October 29th exercises were preparedness training. They were not a response to an active flood at the recreation area.
