Caltrans Town Hall in Colusa to Address 10th Street Elm Tree Removal and Replacement
Caltrans will hold a town hall at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 5th, at the Colusa Scout Cabin to discuss removal and replacement of elm trees along 10th Street.

Colusa residents will have an opportunity to hear from Caltrans about the future of the elm trees along 10th Street during a town hall scheduled for Thursday, November 5th, 2026.
The Colusa County community meeting will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Colusa Scout Cabin, 901 Parkhill Street in Colusa. The City of Colusa’s public notice identifies removal and replacement of the 10th Street elm trees as the subject of the meeting.
The discussion comes as residents and officials consider how to address tree safety while preserving the character of one of the city’s recognizable streets.
Why the trees have drawn attention
Caltrans previously recommended removing mature elms along 10th and Market streets, citing concerns about deteriorating trees, falling branches and damage to sidewalks. Residents have questioned whether every tree needs to be removed and whether some could remain with additional care.
Consulting arborist Gordon Mann has challenged removing the entire group, arguing that pruning and maintenance could allow many of the trees to remain. The disagreement makes the upcoming meeting an opportunity for residents to hear what Caltrans is now considering and how replacement planting would be handled.
The new meeting notice does not specify how many trees would be removed, when work would begin or which replacement species would be planted. It also does not announce a final removal decision.
