Roadside Fuel Break Project Targets Four Butte County Communities

A planned vegetation project will focus on roads serving Hurleton, Forbestown, Clipper Mills and Berry Creek, with contractor deadlines arriving in November.

The Butte County Fire Safe Council is seeking up to three contractors for its South County Roadside Fuels Reduction Project.

The work is intended to create shaded fuel breaks along evacuation routes. It will take place on public rights of way and private property under the council’s oversight.

Where the work is planned

The proposed areas include Stringtown Road in the Hurleton area, Forbestown Road and La Porte Road in the Forbestown and Clipper Mills areas, and Bald Rock Road in Berry Creek.

The solicitation includes different vegetation treatment methods, depending on the project area.

Contractors must attend the required site visits for their bids to be valid. Those visits are scheduled for November 3rd and 4th, 2026.

Proposals are due November 24th by 4 PM.

Work is anticipated to begin in December and take approximately 60 to 90 days, depending on weather. Those are planning estimates, rather than confirmation that crews are already working or that road closures have been scheduled.

The project uses federal Forest Service fuels reduction funding in partnership with Butte County Public Works.
